I’m so sorry to break the sad news that Richard has passed away after a battle with cancer.

I really don’t know what to say other than that he was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him.

And that’s a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show in 2006?

If you wish to add anything, feel free.

  1. Werner

No words, it’s a shock, I’m very sad!

Just one thing to say: Thank you very much for all the music you gave us!! You will be always in my heart!!

  2. Jane Armstrong

This is such sad news. I don’t know what to say.

Rick, you will be missed greatly – but your legacy will live on forever.

My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

  5. Kris

    I cant believe this!

Absolutely devastated. I’m just glad I got to see him live before he passed, what a wonderful musician and a gentleman.

I’m still utterly shocked, I didn’t know he was ill.

Condolences to his family and friends.

A truly gifted musician who will always be a legend in my eyes.

    RIP Rick x

  6. Johnnie Floyd (Chicago)

I honestly don’t know what to say – I’m still in shock. I can barely see my computer screen due to the steady stream of tears that are falling from my eyes.

He will be missed….that’s all I can say for now….

    God bless everyone. Take care.

Live at Gdansk will be a bittersweet release….

  7. Barks

I’m devastated. He was THE big influence on me to be a true band player. Wonderful textures and a highly under rated player at that.

    Much respect.

  8. Davie101

Truly heartbreaking, there are no words. Almost in tears here, I wish his family and friends all the best.

I don’t know what to say.

  9. Ian Pearson

I am so glad I had the privilege to meet Richard at Glasgow in 2006 and will treasure those memories like the tears running down my cheek which I will never wipe away. I know what he gave to music and society will also be never wiped away.

My sincere wishes to his family and friends in that I hope that they take strength in that Richard is without suffering and at peace.

I hope the news will be treated with respect and privacy by all. After all it is that which Richard would have wanted.

    We will not forget.

    Love Ian

  10. Mike from Michigan

This is indeed a very sad day.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Richard’s family, including his Pink Floyd family. I am certainly shocked, and very sad. I will go through my collection and play Rick’s songs today, and remember how much he contributed to the sound and story of Pink Floyd.

    RIP, Richard

  11. Justin Vile

It’s not very often (thankfully) that I hear such sad news.

I’ve grown up listening to the music of Pink Floyd, so thank you Rick for the huge contribution that you have made to my musical upbringing.

    Gone but never forgotten.

  12. Mark

    Sad news indeed.

Richard has left us all with a great legacy. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

  13. Joseph Morse

Rest in peace, dear Richard. You’ll be missed but fondly remembered.

My deepest sympathies to Richard’s family and friends.

  14. Calibwam

Shocked, sad.. I can’t express my feelings now. Richard was the world’s finest piano player.

I would gladly wait some more time for Gdansk so David could pay his tribute on the set. “In memory” or something.

    Requires ino Pacem, Richard.

  15. JohnP

The key to The Pink Floyd Sound. Richard will be missed.

Thanks for sharing your talents with the world.

  16. Mark

So sad to hear about Rick Wright’s death.

I feel enormously privileged to have heard him play at the RAH in 2006; he received a well-deserved and hugely warm round of applause and gave a wonderful performance.

His musical legacy, though, leaves us all something to treasure.

  17. Mike Caddick

I always looked forward to hearing your songs on the Floyd albums and was thrilled that my first live Floyd experience was you playing the Shine On intro. I had tears in my eyes then, I have tears in my eyes now.

It was so good to see you happy on the 2006 tour, Rick, and I’d like to echo David’s comment on the DVD documentary: “I love you, man.”

  18. Peter Kyster Slot

I’m so sorry to hear this. His family is in our thoughts in these hard times.

RIP Richard, your sound will never fade.

  19. Gordon

    What dreadfully sad news.

Thank you for the music Rick, and so glad I got to see you play at the RAH.

Many condolences to all in the Wright family.

  20. Bob Mitchell

Never met him or knew him. But Richard Wright has been a very big part of my life for over 40 years, and I have a genuine affection for the guy.

I am very saddened indeed. I shall miss him.

My deepest sympathies go out to his family.

    Bob Mitchell, Victoria BC, Canada.

  21. Les (Hinckley)

“From morning to night, I stayed out of sight, didn’t recognise I’d become”…..a keyboard genius.

God Bless Richard. Our thoughts are with your family.

  22. david

    i’m so sorry.

rick, you were a fabulous pianist, a true hammond organ genius and the MASTER of the electric piano.

rest in peace, old friend. give our regards to syd.

  23. RobM

What else can be said? Devastating news for his family, friends and fans.

Thank you Rick for the music.

I’m so glad I got to see him at the RAH with David. I’ll never forget the moment during Echoes when just the two of them were in the spotlight.

    Rest In Peace.

  24. Nic

RIP Richard – don’t know what else to say but it doesn’t half put the past bickering into perspective.

  25. Francesco (Italy)

    I love Pink Floyd… Sorry, but I don’t speak English…

    R.I.P. Richard…a great man…

  26. Jujufloyd

  29. Melissa(*_*)

I’m so sad about this, it’s just terrible news. My sympathies to Rick’s family and friends and all of you.

I’m really pleased that Rick did this tour with David, he looked so happy and played so well.

In all this sadness, I can comfort myself by remembering the documentary on ‘Remember That Night’, where Rick explained how happy it made him feel to be on tour with David again. Thanks for that.

‘Echoes’, will never be the same again, without Richard’s ping.

    Shine on Rick…

  30. Howard Bayliss

    Hi Fed,

I just saw this at the BBC about 40mins ago and I am still in shock. He is by far one of the most underrated musicians in rock and his keyboard work will never be forgotten. I was talking to Rudders and he mentioned that he was listening to his Wet Dream CD just last night. Very very sad news indeed.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family and of course David, Roger and Nick as well.

    A very sad Cheers,

  31. jcm

Very sad news. It makes me very glad that I saw him play at the RAH during the recent DG tour. My daughter (20) enjoyed his playing and thought his voice added depth to many of the songs.

Our thoughts are with his wife , children and friends.

  32. Michael from Los Angeles

    RIP Rick.

Thanks for everything you did throughout your career. You will be greatly missed. At least you and Syd are together again.

    We’ll see you again.

  33. Krugmeister

Richard was always one of my favs.. and having him tour with David was icing on the cake.

On the DVD he and David just schooled the rest of us on how it is SUPPOSED to be done.. esp. on Echoes.

I am in shock and I feel good for Richard for the end of any pain he may have been suffering.

He left the music world a FAR better place, and to those who knew him he was finest example of a gentleman.

RIP Rick, you will ALWAYS be adored and missed.

  34. Kevin Spicer

The saddest news in a very long while. RIP Richard. We will miss you.

Off to listen to his music now…

  35. Andrew

I’m just shocked. I send my condolences to his friends and family.

    What more can you say?

  36. Gus

Rest in soft peace, Richard Wright, and thank you so much for your gorgeous work.

I remember Richard in Vienne, his hands raised, in his white shirt, as the crowd roared in appreciation at his introduction.

Oh, how he will be missed…

  37. Rosemary

I just heard. I can’t believe it. Very sad day for Pink Floyd fans all over the world…….

  38. Lynn

I am so very sorry to hear this news.

Words fail at times like these, but my thoughts are with the Wright family, and with everyone here.

  39. Karima

A blow to the heart. Shocked and very, very sad.

Of course it’s hard to express in words the joy his music has given me (everyone!) – a musical legacy of startling substance.

Deepest sympathies to family and friends.

    RIP Richard.

  40. Neil Shine, Essex

A very sad day for Floyd fans. What a legacy to leave.

Now playing The Great Gig In The Sky.

  41. rob

Just read this on the BBC news site – I’m in shock. Really speechless.

A sad day for us all.

  42. Ax

I am honestly numb right now. Richard had such a profound influence on me, and he was the reason that I started playing keyboards.

He and his family are in my thoughts and Prayers.

Shine On Richard, you will be sorely missed, and Forever Remembered.

    From a Fan

  43. Darran

One cannot say what hasn’t already been said, what a beautiful tribute we will all share on the 22nd.

    God Bless Richard,

  44. Irfaan Akudi

This is truly shocking news! I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with David Gilmour on his On An Island Tour at the Royal Albert Hall. He was brilliant, especially the almost note-for-note perfection of Great Gig in the Sky. And yeah, he absolutely did get the loudest and longest standing ovation that night, and rightly so. He seems to be the most loved of the Floyd members.

He was responsible for the great sound and atmosphere of almost all Pink Floyd songs. Without him, there is no Pink Floyd.

Richard Wright will be greatly missed.

  45. Jordan Luft

I just heard the horrible news..I am very sad to hear that such a man from the most influential band I have ever heard is gone.

I know my dad will be happy to see Richard’s arrival in heaven, and that he’ll be in good company!!!!!

  46. Wookiee

My dad died earlier this year. I did not cry, he was 85, it was his time.

    I am crying now.

Richard, you will be missed by many.

  47. Rick Deliz

My favorite keyboardist in the world, such a sad day, you will be missed!

My condolences to family and friends!

    Rick Deliz

  48. Pierre Paquette

I was sad but I never cried when I heard that an artist had passed away… until a few minutes ago when I read on the French Wikipedia that Mr. Wright lost his fight against cancer.

I don’t know what to say. Maybe silence is the best option. Silence and remember.

    Rest in peace.

  49. Evan

When I think of Pink Floyd, I always think of Richard Wright stoically at the keyboard.

A very fine musician and human being. I’m very glad to have seen him tour with David recently.

  50. Matthew

    Rest in peace Richard.

You were a great musician and a great man. You shone at the Royal Albert Hall.

My deepest condolences to his friends and family.

  51. Ida Victoria Slot

I have no words, I am very sad and thinking of the family, who suffer a great loss.

All my thoughts to you who knew dear Rick!

  52. Tom

I’m so sorry for the family of both Richard and of the Floyd.

David, please take good mind that the two of you spend wonderful time together in the past and recent years making great music that all will remember.

    Richard, say hi to Syd.

See you on the dark side of the moon.

  53. Jester

    I cant believe it.

I had seen Rick in Munich 2006. We sang together Happy Birthday for him….he was so surprised, it was wonderful.

  54. Rudders - Toronto

“Every man dies – Not every man really lives.” – William Ross Wallace

Richard lived and will be sadly missed… Rest In Peace.

  55. mark

    sad day indeed.

i’m going to go listen to paintbox, summer ’68, and see saw right now.

  56. Gabrielle, Washington State

Very sad news today. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I’m at a loss for words. Echoes …

    Peace and love,

  57. Narek

He was my first keyboard hero. And it was an honor to see him and David live in Los Angeles back in 2006. He will be in my thoughts today.

  58. Marcus Buick

I’m shattered, completely shattered. My best wishes to the family and friends. No words are good enough. Rest in peace Richard . . .

  59. Jochen Förster

A very sad day, firstly for his family and friends, secondly to all of us Floyd Fans.

Throughout my whole life, Pink Floyd´s music was on my side.

I really do hope that he has not suffered too much. I will pray for your Great Gig In The Sky, Mr. Wright.

The Second One to go from David´s Gig in Paris 2002: Michael Kamen and Rick Wright.

All my best wishes to their families and friends.
